As of now, there needs to be a lot of work done for my project. I need to push my concept further and take the forms I have and change them into a space that represents the original concept. I need more clear and concise that cover most of my thoughts and conditions I considered. I have a few sectional sketches but I need to make them real. I need to tell my story better. It should read like a picture book. Until now I didn’t diligently contemplate paths around the site, which I need to get on. Also I just focused on form of the buildings; I did not strongly consider the programmatic requirements. Along with program, I also happened to believe that there was not sun on the site. At this moment my project looks and functions more like a canopy thus I need to design it so it reads more like a building.
The mid-review was quite helpful. At the start of this assignment I had many ideas that I wanted to translate into my concept but after this review I was able to get my thoughts straight. Because we had to explain our projects multiple times, I realized each time I presented what direction is goes in when I talk about certain points. For example, that first review I did not have my thoughts organized and I just started talking about my boards and didn’t really focus on my procession and the model so it was confusing to the critic. Therefore, I did not get to elaborate and have a discussion on the points I wanted to. However, as I continued to I was able to direct my words towards my points of interest. Also as I was explaining I realized all the things I was missing. I need to sell my project in a better way. Furthermore, the idea of visual and special density needs to be portrayed even more, in every nook and cranny. Circulation for humans and the raptors needs to be figured out in way that it represents the concept in a better way. I need to consider relationships of the humans to the roof system, birds to the roof system, humans to birds, birds to humans, solid and void to visual and special density, public to private, public/private to visual and special density, the natural and artificial landscape to the buildings/roof systems and density through layering.
Before this mid review everyone thought the idea of it was insane but in fact it was very useful. I need to basically redo my entire project. The form and system of it is going to change. I have many more things to consider as I am designing. To tackle these issues I will re-analyze the site for circulation and entry, rethink the special and visual condition the humans and birds will encounter. In other words I have a lot of work and very little time. In order for me to be at a position where I can achieve all the goals that would sell my project, for the next two weeks I am going to work like a squirrel on coffee.
For tomorrow I need to have a complete set of drawings…four elevations, site plan, roof plan, floor plan, one building section, a model worked on for 20 hours…with all the issuses figured out and solved…but I cant do this until I figure out the structural and transparency diagrams
A class that I am taking now, History of Architecture, makes me appreciate other traditions and religions a lot more. I thought I was pretty open minded already but this class has opened my eyes even more. Not just this class but this subject. The art and spaces created by a person always has something to say and usually it says more than there can be anything said. The design of these sacred places are so extraordinary. You can’t even imagine, all the spaces are sculpted to manipulate your emotions and you don’t even realize it. You learn so much more about your beliefs. I can say I truly am proud of my heritage. And respect everyone else’s. I believe the same goes with people. Just try to understand their side of the story and see the overall picture.
I mean if we just look at everything from a western sense then we would have never appreciated the eastern architecture. The metaphoric and literal manifestation of the art to design a space is unreachable. How every little thing is taken into consideration, the littlest things as the tiny sculptures carved on the surface of the footing. Let it be ancient, classical, contemporary, or modern it is all design. (lol and this when archi’s get what im talking about…hehe) (as you guys can tell I am really hyped up about this class! ^_^)
Words of Wisdom:
It is just insane how you think you may know something well but in fact you are just at the tip of the iceberg. So never underestimate anything. You never know when life will surprise you.
Sometimes I don’t really know what I’m thinking when I complain. My words are impulsive and my whines are continuous. However, little do I think about how lucky I am to be in my position. I’ve been given the chance of an excellent education, that to without hassle, and I need to take this into…
